Study Skills

Think about your homework , studying , and test preparation . Focusing on your habits now will save you time and stress in the future! HOMEWORK, STUDYING, AND TEST PREP STUDY SKILLS Your Work Space Does your work space have these ingredients for success? If not, what changes can you make? Do you have a regular study space? Is it free from distractions that will take you away from your work? Does it have space to spread out and do work? Is it quiet enough for you to work and study effectively? Does the lighting allow you to see things clearly? Does it have the materials you need (pencils, calculator, etc.)? Test Preparation Test-taking skills start with how well you study. When you prepare for tests: Do you prepare at least a week in advance? Do you break your studying into chunks of 15 or 20 minutes a day? Do you lightly review what you know well and focus on things you don’t know as well? Do you get enough sleep and eat a good breakfast on test day? Smart Studying Study smarter, not harder! To decide how you study best, consider the following questions: At what time of day are you most alert and focused? Are you more motivated by finishing your hardest or easiest tasks first? Do you study better with others or alone? Does quiet background music distract you or keep you focused? Do short breaks help you focus or distract your focus?
